Lake and Thermal Springs of Kaiafas

Just 5 km from Zacharo is the unique ecosystem of Kaiafas. The thermal springs, the lake and the pine forest of Strofylia, are harmoniously combined, composing a landscape of inexhaustible natural beauty. The thermal waters of the spa town of Kaiafas are known for their healing properties since ancient times. The waters spring from two caves, known as “Caves of the Anigridon Nymphs” and “Geranio Andros”, located at the foot of the mythical Mount Lapitha, and are suitable for both balneotherapy and drinking therapy.

The lake of Kaiafas was formed in the 6th AD. century, after large seismic tremors. Today it is home to many species of fish, eels, turtles, but also many migratory birds during the winter months. At the same time, it is also a water sports center for many water sports, such as rowing, water skiing, etc. In the lake is the islet of Agia Ekaterini, where the homonymous picturesque chapel dominates. Between the lake and the coast of Kaiafas is the beautiful pine forest of Strofylia, where one can take beautiful walks.
